.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 158 AM CDT Thu Jun 26 2025
A closed upper low over southern Florida meanders north to over the
eastern Southeast into the weekend. Additional shortwave energy
swings through the upper flow over the eastern Conus, eventually
digging a mean upper trough over the East Coast by the coming week.
Weak and variable low level flow over the Southeast leaves a very
moist airmass (precipitable h20 values generally in the 1.8"-2.0"
range) over the region through the weekend. A surface ridge
organizes over the central Gulf, bumping moisture levels over the
forecast area up a bit, to over 2.0". MLCapes rise into the 2500-
3500 J/kg range (sometimes higher) each day, with our pattern of
afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms continues through the
forecast. Add in DCapes rising into the 900-1200 J/kg range at
times, rowdy storms are possible each afternoon, with downburst
winds the primary threat. Small hail is possible with the stronger
updrafts, also. Convection is expected to form over the open Gulf
towards sunrise is possible as air temps cool to below SSTs
(currently in the mid to upper 80s), possibly affecting coastal
areas, and bringing possible waterspouts to our coastal waters.
Temperatures see a bit of a downturn as the upper ridge over the
Southeast weakens. Mid to upper 90s Thursday fall into the upper 80s
to around 90 by Monday of the coming week. Heat Indices remain in
the 100-106 degree range (locally higher) over most of the forecast
area, though, with the slight increase in moisture levels counter-
balancing the slight drop in temperatures. Low temperatures see
little variation through the forecast, with low 70s well inland to
near 80 along the coast expected.
A less organized onshore flow will create a Low to at times Moderate
Risk of Rip Currents through the forecast. /16
